What are the different types of bed frames?

There are many different types of bed frames you can purchase to complete the look you want in your bedroom. You can choose from something simple like a standard bed frame, to a space-saving daybed, an elaborate four poster bed, or even an adjustable frame bed. 

A standard bed frame is your simplest option. It is a metal or wooden frame with slats or bars going across the middle to support the weight of the box spring and mattress. Some standard bed frames will have slats slightly lower than the outside frame to allow the mattress to drop inside and prevent slipping.

Platform bed frames are low to the ground, use either a solid surface or slats to support the mattress, and they do not need a box spring. This type of bed frame has more options than a standard bed frame, such as a headboard, storage, or upholstered sides. They are compatible with any type of mattress including memory foam, but several manufacturers suggest using a solid material like plywood between the slats of a platform bed frame and a memory foam mattress to prevent sinking.

Adjustable bed frames can move the mattress into different positions. At minimum, adjustable bed frames will raise the head and foot of the bed. Additional features may include massage controls, remotes, memory settings, and separate adjustability for each side of the bed (split king). The best mattresses for an adjustable bed frame are memory foam, latex, or hybrid mattresses that aren’t too firm or have inner springs that prevent the mattress from moving easily as you adjust your bed.
